GRE
WHAT IS GRE?
GRE generally stands for Graduate Record Examination. It is a standardized test conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Service) for the students who are applying to postgraduate courses in the US and in some other parts of the world. GRE scores are mostly accepted by most of the top graduate level colleges of Masters. Generally, GRE exam is isolated into two parts: General Test and Subject Test. The exam aims of this exam is to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not entirely based on any specific field of study outside of the GRE itself.
HOW LONG IS THE GRE?
In general the examination period for GRE exam is three hours and forty five minutes. And the exam contains:
- The writing sections (60 minutes total)
- Two Verbal sections (30 minutes each, 60 minutes total)
- Two quantitative sections (35 minutes each, 70 minutes total)
- One ungraded experimental section (30-35 minutes)
HOW MUCH DOES THE GRE COST?
Right now, the testing fee for the GRE is $205.00. This fee applies for both the paper-based and computer-based test. Today, most students take the GRE via computer. Early in the process, students are able to search for a testing location that’s near where they live. They simply enter the name of their country, state, and city into the search engine and view the results. Once they find a nearby testing location, they look to see if there are seats available on an upcoming test day. All of this is done via the Educational Testing Service website.
WHAT ARE THE BEST GRE BOOKS?
The offerings from ETS—including the Official Guide, the Quantitative Reasoning Practice Questions, and the Verbal Reasoning Practice Questions—are the best GRE books you can find. ETS is the same company that produces the GRE itself, so the material in these books is written to the same specifications as content you’d find on a real GRE.
