WHAT IS SAT?

SAT is formally known as scholastic aptitude test and known as SAT reasoning test is one of the matriculation exams accepted by four year institutions in USA. As this examination was initiated in 1962, its name and scoring has changed a number of time. Primarily it was entitled Scholastic Aptitude Test but later on the name was changed to Scholastic Assessment Test then SAT I: Reasoning Test, then the SAT Reasoning Test and finally it was termed as  SAT. College Board, a private non-commercial organization in United States entirely holds, formulates and issues the SAT. This test is generally to test the students’ promptitude for higher level academic life. SAT is becoming progressively popular now days and has been able to grab interest from majority of students. It really allows the students to reach a higher level at a faster pace and in a channelized order. It is further divided into two parts, one is SAT reasoning test (SAT 1) and the other is SAT subject test (SAT 2). SAT is 3 hours and 50 minutes test. SAT measures skills in three Fields: Writing, Critical Reading and Mathematics. Apart from the multiple choice questions, students are also required to write a 25-minute essay. SAT is an entrance exam for those students who want to study abroad or take admission in other colleges. It consists of three sections: mathematics, critical reading and writing.

WHEN AND WHERE DO I TAKE SAT?

SAT is administered several dates a year, so you can choose any date that is commendatory for you. It is generally offered in March, May and June, August, October, November and December. There are five exam centers for SAT here in Nepal: Kathmandu International Center, RatoBangala School, St. Xaviers School, Trinity International School and Ullens School.

HOW LONG IS THE SAT?

SAT exam is 3 hours 50 minutes long. It consists of: Reading, Writing, Maths(with calculator), Maths(without Calculator) and Essay(optional). And the overall score for this exam is 1600.

HOW MUCH DO MY SAT SCORE MATTERS?

It really matters a lot. It’s not just a standard test for your career selection but if you want to contest to grab a seat for a topnotch colleges then it means a lot. Average SAT is an important input for US News rankings, so many colleges have increased their emphasis on scores. In addition, the most competitive colleges receive so many applications that, for the sake of efficient review, they are forced to rely increasingly on numbers to differentiate applicants.
